Bring Honor Back [part 2]
We know that God not only deserves but also desires our honor. We are called to bring Him highest praise, highest honor. We are called to live in such a way that points back to God and showers Him with value, importance, and commitment.
Not only does God promise us grace and an eternity with Him in exchange for our honor, but he promises to honor us. He tells us in 1 Samuel 2:30 that he will bring honor to those that honor Him. He will bring honor to us. The God of the Heavens and the Earth, the God who created the stars and the seas, the God who sacrificed Himself so that we may be saved….HE promises to honor US.
The thing is, this honor from the Most High only comes when we are humble. Our world is not one that encourages humbleness. It promotes self-righteousness, boastfulness, and humility is often seen as weakness. As insecurity.
But, Jesus calls us to something higher than this world. He calls us to walk the walk. He calls us to be different than the norm. Instead of getting lost in envy and greed and gossip and judgement, God demands that we focus instead on forgiveness and gentleness and kindness and grace and faith.
We are never misled into thinking that this would be an easy task. Jesus never sugar coats this for us. He is very clear about how hard it will be. He is very clear about the fact that people will challenge us and try to steer us away from our path. That’s why honor is so important. Without honor, we become anything but humble. Without honor, we become proud. And without honor, we cannot be a true representation of Him.
So when the world calls us to negativity and pride, we must choose honor. On purpose. Intentionally. Without fear. We must pursue patience and love. We must emit thankfulness and quiet humility in all areas of our lives. If we do that – if we truly honor God all the time – he promises to crack open the Heavens and bring us great honor in return.
