Find Your Song
Pastor Phillip O’Reilly
This time of year is loaded with songs. These familiar songs have become tradition. They enhance the holiday. And really, what better way to celebrate the beauty of Jesus’ birth than with the beauty of song?
There is a reason songs speak to us like they do. There is a reason their lyrics stick with us and their melodies get stuck in our heads. There is a reason songs are able to help us through times in our liv
es that words did not. Because sometimes, words need songs to come out right.
Singing, worshiping, making a joyful noise – all these things are spoken about many times over in the Bible. God loves singing. He loves dancing and clapping and joy. All of the songs we have to sing are an echo back to the original singer – God. And if we stop to think about it, we have all the reasons in the world to sing.
We are chosen, not forsaken; He is for us, not against us. We’ve seen Him
move mountains and we know He’ll do it again. We’ve seen animals catch His breath and heard the oceans roar His greatness. We know that He has arrested death. So, let’s sing. Worship. Dance. Clap. Shout. Because the Highest of High does the same every time we show our love. Every time we bring others to Him. Every time we wake up and tell the devil, not today.
God is a joyous God. He wants us to find our songs. Give breath to them. Shout them from the mountain tops. Praise the God of all Heavens and Earth, because He is mighty to be praised.
The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” (Zephaniah 3:17)
