Not Forsaken [part 1]

Pastor Phillip O’Reilly | The Universal Craving

So often, we focus on the differences between us. The things that divide, the things that create distance, the things that build walls. But really, we all have a universal desire to fit in. To experience family. To belong.

Family starts and ends with fathers. Whether good or not, fathers are the cornerstone of family. We are hard wired to want our father’s approval, blessing, affection, and participation. That’s the way we are set up – to seek a father’s attention.

This gets tricky when the broken world gets in the way. When brokenness enters the picture, we begin chasing an ideal father, and, because no father is perfect, we continue to live in disappointed pursuit of that.

The enemy’s whole goal is to seek, kill, and destroy. Families are where he starts. Where he gets a foothold that ruins generations of potential.

But that’s where God steps in. God is the Perfect Father. The only Perfect Father. The Perfection that drives out brokenness, that strengthens. He picks up the slack of our earthly fathers. He restores hurt and loves us with the love we crave. He is the only Father we need.

“I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.” [2 Corinthians 6:18]
