Not Forsaken [part 4]

Pastor Phillip O’Reilly | Your New Family Tree

We are living in an age where we want to know where we come from. We search on sites and spit into tubes and research history books to learn a little more about our lineage, our past, our family.

Sometimes, if we’re lucky, we find kings and queens in our family line. But, more commonly, we just find more people who are broken just like us and who didn’t have all the answers just like us.

But the good news is here. And we know that through Jesus, we inherit a new family tree. One full of grace and forgiveness and second chances. One that stems back to the King of the Universe.

No longer are we bound by the mistakes of our parents, by the missteps of our grandparents, by the misjudgments of our ancestors. No longer do we resonate with a feeling of deep rooted inadequacy. When we say “that’s just the way I was born”, God answers with “I know…but I have a new life for you.”

We have new genetics inside of us because of God. Only God. We do not get to take any credit for our adoption, because there is nothing we could ever do to earn such grace. It’s all due to God and His love for us. Because of His love, we have His blood in our veins. Because of His love, we have been grafted into His family tree.

The curse is broken. We get to live a brand new life, with a brand new identity, in a brand new family with God at the center.

“Now we look inside, and what we see is that anyone united with the Messiah gets a fresh start, is created new. The old life is gone; a new life burgeons!” [2 Corinthians 5:17, MSG]
