Questions God Asks [pt 8]

Pastor Phillip O’Reilly

Sometimes, the questions God asks are hard to swallow. The question in Pslam 11 is one of those.

“When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?” [Psalm 11:3]

Foundation matters. If a structure is not built on solid ground, it will crumble. The same is true for humankind. If we allow feelings to dictate the unshakable Word of God, we are sailing in stormy seas without a lighthouse.

Ideas have consequences. And ideas that go against God’s ideas are dangerous. They’re harmful and toxic and not in the plan for us as followers.

Why do those ideas pose such a threat? Because God isn’t the only one after our hearts. The enemy is too. The enemy is hunting us down, sneaking in through our blind spots, building his house on our doubt and selfishness.

The reality is that our world is broken, and the enemy knows it. Our world is sinking and shaky, and the enemy tries to keep it that way. But, despite it all, our world also holds great promise. Because God has already fixed our brokenness and has already stabilized our shaking. He has already beat the Dark that weakens our foundation. Every kingdom can be shaken except the kingdom of God.

So, what can we do? When the foundation starts to give, how can we stand firm? We can rest in the mighty name of Jesus. We can speak out in hope and grace and love for the things we know to be right. We can take ownership of the path we are on, and allow God to use us to right it. We can join together to demand better for His people. We can continue to stay steadfast on the One who won the war.
