Jesus promised to never leave us as orphans. That He would always be with us. And Jesus always keeps His promises, so He sent the Holy Spirit.
The Word tells us that the Holy Spirit is our friend, our advocate. Someone to stand up for us and with us and to help guide us on the right path. The same power that Jesus had is accessible to us through the Holy Spirit. It lives in us and through us. And because of this, we are called to go and do great things.
The good news is that we don’t have to go alone. When we say yes to God, we don’t have to figure things out on our own. In fact, that’s not the way we are designed. In addition to the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the Bible tells us that we have to connect to other believers.
Fellowship is companionship. Sharing together. Doing life together. Helping one another hear the voice of the Holy Spirit. Lifting each other up in prayer and communion.
Partnership allows us to work together for a common goal – the glorification of God’s name. When we come together in worship and proclamation of Jesus, the goal of spreading His light becomes easier.
Intimacy with each other is what we, as Christ followers are called towards. This allows us to be able to represent one another. To see into each other’s struggles and blind spots. To help one another be the best we can be for Jesus.
The Holy Spirit longs for a relationship with us. Like we spend time with friends, the Holy Spirit wants us to spend time with Him as well. And when we do that, we are more able to hear our shepherd’s voice in the darkness, and we’re more equipped to follow on His path.
“May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.” [2 Corinthians 13:14]
